Four months ago, Angel L Balancé Reyes Romero knocked on our door looking for some used barrels that he could make into drums. Angel constructs drums called "barriles de Bomba" (some are called "bulá") which are used in the Bomba music of Puerto Rico. A maestro, historian, and educator in Bomba music and dance, Angel is enthusiastic in his pursuit to preserve and share Bomba heritage. The OOLA Waitsburg Bourbon barrels used to build the barriles will help Angel give young people the opportunity to learn and share Puerto Rico’s rich history and culture.
